Custom Built Fences Rendered wall fence with large steel sliding gate

Sliding Gate or Swing Gate?

There are several different gates to choose from and the most suitable type of gate for your property depends on the space that you have and your needs for entry.

You may be looking for an automatic remote-control gate that swings outwards or inwards. If you do not have room for swinging gates, a sliding gate or cantilever gate might be more suitable for your driveway. All Custom Built Fences gates can be installed with an automatic electric motor or made to manually open. Our gates can be made from steel, Colourbond, aluminium, and steel frame with timber slats and can be installed to suit brick pillars, steel posts, aluminium posts, or timber posts.

Customers have installed a Custom Built Fence at their:

  • Domestic House
  • Unit blocks
  • Retirement villages
  • Commercial Property
  • Industrial estate
  • School

Below are the types of gates that Custom Built Fences can make for you:

  • Sliding Gate
  • Swing Gate
  • Cantilever Gate

Sliding Gate

Sliding gates are suitable for small driveway spaces, without protruding into footpaths or your garden. Suitable for down or up-sloping properties. Your Sliding gate can be designed to slide in behind your garden, by clearing a section behind an established garden for the gate to slide in behind your plants.

Swing Gate

Swing Gates are suitable for properties with larger areas. Whether you prefer your gate to sing outwards or inwards, Custom Built Fences will ensure that your Gate will swing in the best direction for the area. A sliding gate has wheels that run along a track which guide the gate smoothly and efficiently.

Cantilever Gate

Cantilever Gates are trackless, making them particularly suited to uneven surfaces, wide driveways, or a situation where a track is not preferred. A Cantilever gate is a heavy-duty sliding gate that runs on a cantilever system. Cantilever gates are suitable for residential, Industrial, or Commercial properties that require security.

Safety features for your Automatic Gate

As a safety feature Custom Built automatic gates offer Linear Photocell presence detectors, which consist of a transmitter device and a receiver. The Photocells are an added safety feature ensuring that your gate will not close and hit anything in the path of the gate. The automatic gates open and close with a push of a button on the remote or driveway keypad, with the option of a reflective sensor and/or an Eloop driveway sensor on your driveway to be set off with a vehicle driving over it. There are different types of photocells, the most common is the transmitter and receiver, however, alternatively, there is an option for a mirror reflector sensor that reflects the beam back to the transmitter to receive the signal which is to be used with an Eloop driveway sensor. A transmitter and receiver are the preferable Photocells, as direct sunlight and rain can affect the efficiency of the reflection of a mirror reflector sensor.

Photocells come in pairs and send infrared beams to each other. If the beam is interrupted by sensing a car or a smaller vehicle or pedestrian, it will send a signal to the gate’s control panel and alerts the gate to stop or open fully so that it will not hit the object.

Depending on the type of gate, the Photocells will be installed at the appropriate point for the gate closing and opening requirements, taking various elements into consideration. For example, if the gates a swinging gates, the pair of photocells will be installed on opposite sides of the driveway just outside the gates, where the gates will reach when fully open. For a sliding gate, the photocells are installed at the gate themselves. The Linear Photocell has a distance of 40m under optimal conditions and 20m in poor visibility conditions, as long as the view is not disturbed but other elements.

Good preventative maintenance and regular inspection ensure a long product life. Simply clean the lenses and the outer shell of the device so that all debris and spider webs, insects, etc. have been cleared away, and perform a test to ensure proper function. If battery operated, replace batteries when needed.

Do you need to use a licensed Builder?

It is advisable to use a licensed builder. Using a licensed builder ensures that everything is done correctly, and is built according to Australian standards with the backing of appropriate insurance coverage.

A builder who goes to the trouble of getting licensed shows that they are committed to their trade. They have taken the time to learn the necessary skills and prove it by getting a trade license that is appropriate for the type of work they do.

When you hire someone for any building project, look at their license first. Does their license permit them to do the type of work you need? Some builders’ licenses are restricted to certain types of work. Their license or registration should tell you everything you need to know.

The other reason why it’s best to use a licensed builder is you will have peace of mind that everything is built correctly to be covered by the warranty.

Can I get a quote over the phone?

Unfortunately, Custom Built Fences cannot give you a quote over the phone, as there are too many variables when it comes to quoting. There are an abundance of things that cannot be addressed without seeing the site and a vast amount of ramifications and requirements that restrict us to be able to give you an accurate quote. So to give you an accurate quote we require our sales representative to come out to visit you and offer a free measure and offer a free quote onsite.

If other companies can give you a quote over the phone, please be cautious of what they are quoting and investigate their quote thoroughly, to ensure that they have included everything you require and that they have taken into consideration all civil works that are required as part of the installation. You don’t want to be left with someone else’s mistakes. Another thing to consider is the quality of the material and workmanship of this company. If you haven’t seen their work in person, you don’t know what you’re getting end as the end product. Also, make sure there are no hidden costs. The last thing you really want to do is accept the quoted price and then be hit with additional costs along the way or at the end of the job.

Maintenance on your fencing

Maintenance on your new Custom Built Fence is relatively easy, with little to no maintenance required. Each style of fence will require different maintenance with most of the maintenance consisting of cleaning your fence every six months to keep it looking fresh.

Steel Fences:

A steel fence may need to wash down with warm soapy water to remove dust and road dirt every six months. If the powder coating is ever chipped and exposes the steel underneath, then a rust-proof touch-up paint will be required to be applied to protect the steel from rusting.

Brick fences:

Washing down your brick fence every six months with warm soapy water can keep your fence looking new, ensuring that dirt and debris are removed and moss and mould build-up is reduced. From time to time you may find cracks in the mortar from movement in the foundations. This is the nature of brick and mortar, but if the appearance of cracks bothers you can have a bricklayer neaten up the mortar to hide the cracks when required.

Brick-rendered fences:

From time to time you may find chips in the render that may be caused by bumps or cracks that have occurred from movement in the foundations. This is not a fault in the brick/render work it is just a possibility with the way the type of fence moves with the ground, but if it does occur then you may need to consider having the render touched up.

Gates:

The hinges of a gate should be greased every six months to keep the gate swinging freely without any squeaks. You may wish to use a product like WD40 or another silicon spray.
